Everybody learns differently, so we will tailor each lesson to you, and work collaboratively towards your goals as a singer and a musician. We try to make all of our lessons relaxed and fun, because this is the best way to learn!

We have a busy teaching schedule, but we work hard to ensure that your lesson doesn’t feel rushed. All of our lessons last 60 minutes which allows you between 40 and 50 minutes of singing time with a few minutes either side, to settle in at the start of the lesson and to recap at the end.

Learning a new skill doesn’t happen overnight, so we encourage students to book a few lessons in advance to secure their preferred time slots and get into a rhythm with it. We’re confident that you’ll love what we do, so we offer a free trial to every new student with no obligation.

Check in

Its important to check in at the start of every lesson. Singing is great fun but can also be challenging so we begin each lesson by checking in with you and doing a short physical warm up together. Taking this time to ease into the lesson feels good and helps to focus the mind and body.

Train Technique

Just like in sport or learning an instrument, learning to sing engages your whole body and a little technique goes a long way. We believe that anyone can learn to sing, and that most people who feel like they can’t, just haven’t figured out how yet. Lots of students are surprised at how quickly and consistently they notice improvements by focussing in on technique every lesson. At Singing Lessons on the Hill, we’re nerdy about singing technique so this bit is really fun for us!

Make Music

This is your time to try out what you’ve learnt. We’ll take some of the technique we have learned and work it into the songs you want to sing. We’e happy to suggest repertoire to students, but we prefer it when students tell us what they want to sing. You can learn through singing any style of music and we’re happy to work on anything you enjoy. We’ll keep a note of the songs we’ve worked on together, it’s sometimes nice to revisit them and see how far you’ve progressed!

Recap

Recapping at the end of your lesson is a crucial step to consolidate what you’ve learnt and give you a plan for your practice that week. You’re welcome to take notes, ask questions, give us some thoughts about your lesson - anything that works for you! We’ll try to make sure you leave feeling energised and confident about your singing, with a clear plan for the week ahead.

Booking

We recommend that students book a few lessons in advance to secure their preferred time slots. This makes it easier to get into a rhythm with your singing, encourages more consistent improvement, and ensures you get the best value out of your lessons.

We suggest taking lessons weekly to make consitent progress but we can accommodate students who want to learn more flexibly as well.

Our teachers have busy performing schedules around their teaching so we can’t always guarantee the same slot every week. The advantage of this is that you will be learning from working professionals with insights from active performing careers.

Limited availability

Our teachers get booked up very quickly. If we’re full, you won’t see any slots available on the scheduling page.
